Determinants of Household Fuelwood Consumption in Public Residential Estates in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria

The type of energy utilized by households is a good reflection the quality life and socio-economic development in any given country. Unfortunately, continued dependence on traditional fuels such as fuelwood major source for domestic purposes particularly Nigeria generating concerns due to its negative environmental, health effects. This study was therefore undertaken examine factors that drive household consumption public residential estates Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria. A survey questionnaire used elicit data from sample 355 household-heads were selected using systematic random sampling technique population 3,192 households. analyzed Ordinary Least Square regression analysis. results revealed gender, marital status, larger size prices alternative had positive significant correlation with quantity consumed while higher level education, income; location residence, share dwelling negatively related consumption. It recommended stakeholders policy makers sector should vigorously promote access affordable modern sources cooking activities subsidizing increasing availability electricity supply will go long way reducing rate indoor air pollution other environmental consequences associated use area.
